the maternal health project

the maternal health project

We're here to talk about how childbirth is dangerous, how we can prevent maternal deaths and who is leading the innovation in maternal health.

Welcome

Join me as I set out to pull together thoughts, research, interviews, resources and more about the current state of maternal care in the US. From how we got here, to what needs to be done and where innovation is happening in women’s health. I'm on this journey myself to better understand the good, bad and ugly of maternal healthcare and try to identify the gaps so that we can fund and build a better future for mothers, women, and babies. It should also be stated that I believe abortion is healthcare and that access is a fundamental human right.

Maternal health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, encompassing not just pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care, but also fertility, morbidity and mortality rates, and reproductive rights. It is a complex issue that involves the participation and support of various stakeholders, including government, employers, and healthcare providers.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy and childbirth are major life events that can have a profound impact on the physical, emotional, and financial well-being of women and their families. However, for too many women, the experience of pregnancy and childbirth is marred by preventable complications and even death.

Fertility

Fertility is also an important aspect of maternal health, and many women struggle with infertility or the ability to conceive. It is important for women to have access to the information and resources they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

Childbirthing

Childbirth is also a critical aspect of maternal health, and the quality of care that women receive during this time can have a major impact on their well-being.

Morbidity and Mortality

Morbidity and mortality rates are also critical indicators of maternal health. Every year, thousands of women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.

What is the maternal health project?

Reproductive Rights

Reproductive rights are also an important aspect of maternal health, and it is essential that women have access to the information and resources they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

Employer & Gov't Contributions

The role of government and employers is also critical in ensuring that women have access to the information and resources they need to maintain their health and well-being during pregnancy and childbirth.

Patient Experience

In order for change to be made, it has to come from outside of the healthcare system. We need to require and demand more. The technology exists to create a better patient experience for pregnant people, we just need the right people to rally around a solution.
